Home energy storage system with a generator started upon the discharge of batteries

This project was implemented in three stages. At the first stage, we conducted an inspection of the existing power supply system. At the second stage, we selected the right type of UPS with external batteries, taking into account the customer’s wishes; At the third stage, we implemented the project. Please see a step-by-step implementation of the project below.

The results of the inspection of the power supply system of the house

The main reasons for contacting us were:

  1. Low mains voltage in the evening – 110-170 V;
  2. Frequent short-term and long-term outages.

As a result, household electrical appliances could not operate properly in the evening and at night. The microwave oven could not warm up the food, the washing machine and dishwasher turned off, LED lighting lamps could not be used, so incandescent light bulbs were used everywhere in the house

Solution

After the inspection, the most appropriate solution was proposed:

  1. Install a voltage stabilizer for the entire rated power of the house with a minimum input voltage of 90V;
  2. Allocate priority consumers, whose interruption disrupts the life support of the house, to a separate distribution board. Such as: a gas boiler, a heating circulation pump, a water supply pump, a refrigerator, CCTV, lighting, Internet, automatic gates;
  3. Power the board of priority consumers from an inverter with batteries;
  4. Install a gasoline generator with automatic start and automatic transfer switch (ATS);
  5. Power the inverter with batteries from the generator ATS;
  6. Install a battery monitor on the batteries, which will start the generator when the battery is low.

Thus, with the city mains available, a voltage stabilizer provides the stable voltage of the entire house. When the city mains unavailable, priority consumers remain energized for 3-6 hours, depending on consumption rates. After the battery is fully discharged, the generator starts and supplies the priority consumers and charges the battery. After full charging or the resumption of the city mains, the generator turns off.
